This category has two types of waxed linen thread: Lightly waxed linen thread like Lin Cable or Yue Fung Buttons (and others) are waxed and buffered before twisting.
Crawford’s waxed linen thread on the other hand is a heavily waxed thread that is completely embedded in wax.
Like the name suggests, non-waxed linen thread is a linen thread with no wax added to it. It is recommended that you wax it before you use it for bookbinding or leather sewing. The advantage of unwaxed thread is that you can use as much wax as you wish and as is needed for your application.
Silk is shiny, flowing, delicate and yet strong. Silk thread gains its strength from its exceptionally long fibres and finds plenty of use in all kind of embroidery, whether it’s on book’s covers or parchment decorations. If you are looking for a vegan substitute, take a look at Lin Retors or Stef Francis linen thread.

Crawford thread is hard to find and expensive but for me nothing quite compares to the quality. And I love to use it for special projects.
